Things that remind me of my childhood

Over the last Bank Holiday weekend, we took a trip to Hunstanton. We had a walk through the town and along the promenade, stopping to let E walk on the beach (she isn't keen, but we keep trying!) and to have an ice cream. It was packed with lots of families, young and old and it got me reminiscing about being a child and how much I used to love visiting the seaside and then, naturally, my thoughts turned to other things that remind me of my childhood:
  • 2p arcade machines - I still head straight to them if we're at the arcade. I'm such a big spender!
  • 80's Pop music.
  • Motown music reminds me of when it was just me and Mum living in our little flat.
  • My teddy bear. I don't remember the moment I got him but I can't remember not having him. I used to take him everywhere with me and there's photos floating about of me on days out with him stuffed down my jumper.

  • Portchester Castle. My Nan and Grandad used to live within walking distance and I used to love our walks down there (my nan would usually carry the dog back!). We would often watch weddings taking place in the grounds. I used to love watching the brides arrive in a horse and carriage and I can remember my Stepmum telling me if I wanted to have one when I got married she'd get one for me.
  • Mint chocolate ice-cream reminds me of my Granny (as do dry, boiled potatoes!).
  • Enid Blyton (Noddy, Famous Five, Secret Seven, Up the Faraway Tree.....) and Beatrix Potter books were all stacked on my bookshelf. I was a huge bookworm and these were some of my favourites.
  • Clarks shoes - my Granny always used to buy my school shoes and I'd end up with a pair of black patent T-bar style shoes. Even now I still can't bear the look of patent shoes. Or anything patent for that matter!
  •  My Silver Cross pram. My Grandparents gave me this when I was a child. I can't remember exactly when but I think I was 6 or 7, which makes it over 25 years old. It was drummed in to me that I had to be very careful with it and I was only allowed to take it outside occasionally so it's still in amazing condition!!

Of course, there's lots more but these are some that spring to mind. What reminds you of your childhood? I'd love to hear :)
