The Eggs Factor

With Easter approaching, Cadbury's Gift Direct got in touch to see if I would like to take part in a competition they are running - The Eggs Factor!

As Easter is always about the big chocolate eggs, they want to give the spotlight back to Creme Eggs this year by encouraging us to create our very own special tributes to the nation's favourite gooey-treat!

So E and I decided to try our hands at a spot of baking. Although E did say 'ooooooh eggs' when she saw them and 'me me' so I unwrapped her one thinking she might quite like it.  Its times like this when I question if she is my daughter (I LOVE Creme Eggs!) as she wouldn't even try it, although she did pose quite nicely for me!  


We, well I, decided to keep it simple and use our Creme Eggs in a recipe. Ice cream, hot chocolate, cornflake or butterfly cakes were all in the running but in the end I decided to adapt a banana bread recipe, which I've previously shared here. So, here's what we did (and its at this point, I'll tell you that it definitely isn't diet friendly - no bananas here - but it is really rather scrummy!):


80g butter, softened (extra for greasing the tin)
1 tsp vanilla extract
100g light brown sugar
x1 egg, beaten
225g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
5 Creme Eggs (3 chopped, 2 melted)
3-5 tablespoons milk



Pre-heat the oven to 180 (gas 4).
Grease a 900g loaf tin with butter and line the bottom with greaseproof paper.
We mixed the butter, sugar, vanilla extract and egg.

Sift in the flour and baking powder and mix well. At the point the mixture was really thick and not coming together so I added some tablespoons of milk to correct it. We then added the melted Creme Eggs, mixing well, before adding the chopped pieces, keeping a few back to add later. (just a warning - chopping them up is very messy, it might be easier to freeze them for a short period before doing).  

We then spooned it into the tin, topping with the pieces we kept back and popped it in the over for 40 minutes. 

And this was the result:


Granted, it doesn't look anything special but Oh-My...... if you need a big sweet hit, this will more than do the job for you!


 I had mine whilst it was still warm with a cup of tea and enjoyed every bit of it!
