Review: Gro-Clock

We were recently sent the Gro-Clock to review from the Gro-Company

The Gro-Clock is something I've been looking at for a while having read about it online, it sounded like a brilliant product.  Because young children cannot tell the time using a traditional clock face, the Gro-Clock is a clock with a simple face that is blue with stars for night time and a yellow sun for day time.  The idea is that the child learns that when the clock is blue it is night time and they have to go to sleep and when they can see the clock is yellow, it is daytime and they can get up.

Features
  • The screen is blue for night with stars to show it is night time and therefore bedtime and goes yellow with a sun to show day time.
  • When set to night function, stars around the edge of the screen count down to show the passing of time.
  • Mains powered.
  • A key lock function to stop little ones paying with the settings.
  • Adjustable screen brightness, meaning you can have it as dim or bright as you like., perfect if like us you use it as a night light too.
  • Optional audible alarm feature.
  • Bedtime story book.
  • Suitable from 2 years upwards.

What we thought

Now I must say that E - touch wood - is a pretty good sleeper, unless she's really overtired or ill. Most nights she is in bed by 6.30 and doesn't get out of bed until after 7am. We tried the clock with her and she completely got how it worked. She knew what the blue screen meant and what the yellow meant. Unfortunately (in terms of this review) it meant that we didn't notice any change in her sleeping pattern.

We have tried using the Gro-Clock with T who will be 2 in March. T is the complete opposite to E when it comes to bedtime and sleeping. Over the last fortnight we've been averaging between 4 and 6 wake ups a night (weeps). Added to the multiple wake ups, it isn't unusual for her to wake up early.

Unfortunately I think T is just a little too young to understand how the clock works but as I've heard success stories from many other Mums I think its worth us trying it again 2 or 3 months down the line. With that in mind, I intend to come back and update this review in due course.

The Gro-Clock is available to buy online

Thank you to the Gro-Company who were kind enough to send us the Gro-Clock for the purpose of this review.
