SIX

This weekend, E turned six. SIX!

This year, for the first time, we decided to hold a birthday party and went for a joint option with my niece as there is only a few days between their birthdays. We are lucky that my in-laws have a large garden so we decided to hold it there. I was incredibly stressed the days before with the rain absolutely pouring down but luckily for us, it stopped late the night before and on the actual day it was sunny, if not a bit chilly with the wind coming across the fields.  We already have a large climbing frame and swings there, a sandpit and trampoline and ordered a bouncy disco castle to go alongside them with the idea of letting them all run wild in the garden and field. We did lunch boxes for them to keep the food simple, popping a sandwich, sausage roll, crisps and cheese string in them and we arranged for the ice cream van to come along afterwards for them to all have ice cream.

Despite over half of the children E invited not turning up (in the end only 7 attended, much to our disappointment), the kids all absolutely loved it and I was absolutely thrilled to get a message later that night from my friend to tell me that her two children thought it was the best party they had ever been to.

I can't take the credit for the party though. My in-laws, particularly my mother in law, organised pretty much everything. D ordered the bouncy castle, and he and I sorted the lunch boxes out in the morning before the party but my in laws organised the food, ice cream van and party bags.  We are so very lucky to have them!

E went to bed that night absolutely exhausted but happy and although we had a few small hiccups, all the effort that went into organising it was completely worth it!

Happy Birthday E. We love you more than you will ever know.

  1. That sounds like a fab party. Disappointing if people were no shows tho. I love the ice cream truck coming by. That would be awesome!

  2. Now that sounds like my kinda party - especially the ice-cream van! I find it so rude that people either can't be bothered to reply to party invites (c'mon, a text takes like 2 seconds...) or those that rsvp yes then don't show up without explanation. I only hope that karma comes around for those people, although it's essentially the kids that miss out. Anyway, the children that turned up are the best kinds of friends to have! I'm glad you all had a great time! x

  3. What a great idea for a party! Absolutely love the idea of the lunch boxes for party food - at least then you know what the children are eating. Think I might steal that idea for our next kid party.

  6. Hi, I totally understand the time that you and your family put in for all the arrangements. I did it for my daughter last year. Trust me when the party is a success and people talk about it then you really feel good. #twinklytuesday
