Gratitude Journal #16

Awards Tickets

Our business is up for an award, with the winners being announced at a special ceremony in March.   It was a bit up in the air as to whether I was going to go because we only had a set amount of tickets and I felt a colleague should get priority and get some recognition for all of the hard work she does for us.  Luckily we've managed to get hold of another ticket, meaning I can go. I do get a little anxious about social gatherings but I think its important for me to go to this one and I'm almost looking forward to it!

Dinner Out
Last week, after my full day in the office, we collected the kids and met my inlaws at the local Wetherspoons for dinner.  Its always such a treat not having to cook after working all day and even though it was later than they would usually eat, the kids were brilliantly behaved and ate well.

Playing Nicely
One evening last week, we came home from school and I had to make a telephone call so sent the kids upstairs to get dressed. As I was on the phone, all I could hear was them banging around, slamming doors and arguing and thought brilliant, that's obviously the night we're going to have then.  There was an unexpected turn for the better when 10 minutes later, they asked if they could go upstairs to play in E's room and have the TV on whilst they were up there. Who am I to argue? In the end, they played for an hour and only came downstairs because it was dinner time.

School
And in complete contrast to my last point, I'm very grateful that the kids are back at school today.  To say that its been a hard weekend would be a complete understatement.  There has been a huge amount of attitude in the house, coupled with T throwing herself about in tantrums and having a whinge at anything and everything.  We seem to go through cycles of her being particularly challenging and it feels as though we're right in the middle of the latest.

Starting the Week Well
As soon as I dropped the kids off at school, I went straight to do the food shop. Once that was done and put away (anyone else hate that job?), before I sat down, I grabbed Buddy and headed out for a walk.  We did an hour, I'm not entirely sure how far we went but when I got home and checked my steps etc I had done 3.5 miles by 11am.  I'm really pleased with that as last week was a bit hit and miss with walking as I spent most of the week feeling a bit under the weather (bloomin' hormones).  I did find it a huge struggle though as I've had a cough and cold for the last few weeks and the cold weather didn't help! Next time I'll remember to take my inhaler with me!

  7. How lovely of you to want a colleague to go but so pleased you can now too and social anxiety is awful as I know but you do just have to throw yourself into things sometimes to realise they are not quite so scary as you thought after all and also to recognise that so many suffer with the same. anxieties. Ditto on the parenting challenges mixed with joys front. Getting out to eat is something we enjoy and you sound organised in so many ways so give yourself a pat on the back for that #TwinklyTuesday
